Philosophy and Our Story - Cocoon Mode de Vie
The name

Cocoon Mode de Vie.

Cocoon Mode de Vie is named for the feeling of being present in your life after being nurtured.

A cocoon is not decoration. It is protection during the only period when the body cannot protect itself. Inside a chrysalis, a caterpillar breaks down almost completely, and what survives are imaginal cells, undifferentiated, capable of becoming anything. Those cells build what comes next.
The structure does not perform the change. It makes the change survivable.

Mode de Vie is a way of living, not a style of decorating.

Our story

Sarah Morrissey, founder.

Sarah Morrissey is the founder of Cocoon Mode de Vie, the first practice of its kind to begin with a personalised scientific assessment of how a specific individual’s brain and biology interact with their living or working environment.

She spent more than a decade in investment banking and financial services consulting in London and New York, in a career built on performance, precision, and a level of pressure that stops registering as pressure when it is the only mode you know. A turning point in 2017 ended it.

What followed was a long recovery spent almost entirely indoors, and the observation this practice was built on: the rooms she was recovering in were working against her. Light at the wrong hour. Sound that never fully stopped. Some rooms gave energy back. Most did not.

The science explaining why already existed, circadian biology, the stress axis, how the brain reads a room before it has consciously been read. It was sitting in journals rather than in homes. Sarah retrained alongside the career she continued: a two year diploma in health coaching completed in nine months, then an MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London, which she is still completing.

She founded Cocoon Mode de Vie in 2024. Its methodology, the Cocoon Method™, moves clients through three phases, Awaken, Transform, Sustain, and its client deliverable, the Cerevra Blueprint™, assesses a home across fourteen frameworks spanning sensory environment, cognitive function, emotional regulation, circadian rhythm, and physical recovery. The practice operates across New York and Los Angeles.

Her argument is straightforward. Real estate builds spaces. Healthcare treats symptoms. Almost nothing is designed to regulate the nervous system where life actually happens.

The Cocoon Method™

Awaken. Transform. Sustain.

Awaken

We read the space as it is, light, sound, materials, air, rhythm, and map what it is currently doing to the people inside it. The assessment comes before any recommendation.

Transform

We translate the findings into a buildable brief: the fourteen-framework structure, ordered by impact, sequenced for the way a space is actually lived or worked in.

Sustain

We hand over the Cerevra Blueprint™, the client deliverable, and, for full-scope projects, return after completion to recalibrate it against the finished space.

The fourteen frameworks

01

Light & circadian rhythm

02

Air & ventilation

03

Acoustic comfort

04

Thermal balance

05

Material honesty

06

Colour & contrast

07

Spatial orientation

08

Threshold & transition

09

Privacy & retreat

10

Social proximity

11

Sensory layering

12

Biophilic connection

13

Rhythm & routine

14

Adaptability over time

The fourteen frameworks are the structure behind every Cerevra Blueprint™ , the client deliverable that turns the assessment into a brief a design team can build.

The Cocoon Method™

Cocoon Mode de Vie was built on a simple premise: the spaces people live and work in shape their brain and body every day, whether or not anyone examines them scientifically. The Cocoon Method™ is how we do that examination, moving clients through three phases: Awaken, Transform, Sustain.

It is a proprietary, neuroscience based framework built across fourteen dimensions of how a space and its occupant interact, spanning sensory environment, cognitive function, emotional regulation, circadian rhythm, and physical recovery.

Rather than treating these as separate design categories, the Cocoon Method™ maps them together as a single picture of how one person’s brain and biology respond to one specific environment.

That map becomes the Cerevra Blueprint™ your engagement is built around, whether the work covers a single room or a full residence.

What makes this different

Most design and wellness approaches start with the space: what materials, what layout, what amenities. Cocoon Mode de Vie starts with the person. Every engagement begins with a personalised scientific assessment of how a specific individual’s brain and biology interact with where they live or work, and all fourteen frameworks are applied together, not as a menu of separate services.

Cocoon Mode de Vie is the science and strategy layer. We supply the map; your own architect, designer, or contractor builds from it.
